Trevor Lawrence, No.1 Pick in 2021 NFL Draft, Tests Positive for COVID-19
Trevor Lawrence, the star quarterback from Clemson and the projected No.1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, has tested positive for COVID-19, according to Clemson's head coach, Dabo Swinney. The news broke late Thursday, and Lawrence is currently in isolation while following the health protocols set by both Clemson University and the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
Trevor Lawrence's COVID-19 Diagnosis and Recovery Coach Swinney confirmed Lawrence's positive test result and shared that the quarterback is experiencing mild symptoms but is otherwise in good spirits. Unfortunately, this means Lawrence will not be available for Clemson's upcoming game against Boston College, which would have been another opportunity for him to showcase his skills.
In a statement, Lawrence said, "I have tested positive for COVID-19, and my symptoms have been relatively mild while I'm following the protocol from Clemson and the ACC. The only thing that hurts is missing an opportunity to be with my teammates this weekend and play the game I love."
Clemson's Season and Lawrence's Impact Clemson has been dominating the 2020 college football season, remaining undefeated at 6-0 and ranked as the best team in the nation. Despite Lawrence’s absence, the Tigers are heavily favored to defeat Boston College this weekend. Lawrence's leadership on the field has been a critical factor in Clemson's success, and his presence will undoubtedly be missed by both his teammates and fans alike.
Lawrence’s Role in Advocating for College Football Amid COVID-19 Trevor Lawrence has been an outspoken advocate for college football to continue during the pandemic. Back in August, Lawrence voiced his concerns that athletes would be at greater risk by not playing and staying at home for distance learning. “People are at just as much, if not more risk, if we don’t play,” he tweeted on Aug. 9, underscoring the importance of maintaining physical activity and structure during uncertain times.
Looking Ahead: Lawrence’s NFL Prospects Trevor Lawrence has been the consensus No.1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft ever since he made a splash in his freshman season by leading Clemson to a national championship in 2018. He was named the offensive MVP of that game, showcasing his immense talent and future potential in the NFL.
While Lawrence has had an incredible college career, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney admitted that it is unlikely the junior quarterback will return for a fourth season with the Tigers. His status as a future NFL superstar continues to gain momentum, and all eyes will be on Lawrence’s recovery and his eventual transition to the professional level.
